Angela Puglisi, born in Messina, specialist in Physical medicine and Rehabilitation, and in Neurology, University of Pavia.Pioneer of rehabilitation in Sicily (in the province of Messina) since the ‘ 70ies, she practised first in private clinics and later in the local centres of the national health system (USLs-now ASLs), where she founded the first rehabilitation services and promoted the growth of the sector.
Coordinator since 1990 of the Department for neurologically injured at “Barone Romeo”, former USL 46, and then coordinator and person responsible for the UO (operational unit) of physiatrics, hospital ASL former 43.
Subsequently head of service of MB (panel medicine) in the same ASL.
Member of various groups, associations and committees, for the protection, the rehabilitation and the employment of disabled people (at national and international level). Prof. Puglisi collaborates for scientific research with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Maine State University, USA, and with the University of Philadelphia, where she worked on several occasions for 5 consecutive years. She has often, and with great passion, given her scientific contribution to humanitarian rehabilitative projects.
She has participated in several long-term training periods abroad (Poitiers, France; Geneve, Switzerland; Boston, USA), which have allowed her to develop professionally and to exchange ideas with professionals from different socio-cultural realities, with a view to enhancing the independence, the conditions and the quality of life of patients in the physiatric sector.
She has been engaged since 1986 in education and training at the University of Messina, and later at other national and international universities. Recently she has been engaged in human rights projects for the safeguard of the dignity of disabled people (WHO).
Head physiatrist, H-INU, Switzerland, Coordinator of International Scientific Research,Giomi-Foundation-Italy. In 2004 she was given the award of “Word Female Doctor for Rehabilitative human rights”
Since May 1988 untill December 2004 she was the head of the physiatric medicine department at ASL of Messina. She is also expert in rehabilitation, representative of Italy with WHO in Geneva, Switzerland.
Member of the following Organizations: - Member of EFRR ( European Federation for Research); - Member of the Board of Directors of EMRSS (Euro Mediterranean Rehabilitative Summer School) since 2006;
